Tsavo East and West and Amboseli

Tsavo East is only a 3.5 hour drive from Kenyaways is one of the biggest National parks in the world. Tsavo West is a bit further about 5 hours from Kenyaways. Tsavo East and West National Park are one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya. The park is divided into east and west sections by the main road from Nairobi and a railway. Named for the Tsavo River, which flows west to east through the national park, it borders the Chyulu Hills National Park, and the Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania. You can see the famous 'big five' consisting of masai lion, black rhino, cape buffalo, elephant and leopard. The park is also home to a great variety of bird life such as crowned crane, Tanganika lovebird and the sacred ibis. Tsavo East is generally flat, with dry plains across which the Galana River flows. Other features include the Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls. Tsavo West is a popular destination on account of its magnificent scenery, Mzima Springs, lava flows, good road system, rhino reserve, rock climbing potential and guided walks along the Tsavo River. A permit is necessary to climb here. Climbers should initially contact the MCK if wishing to climb here. Amboseli National Park, is a bit further than Tsavo West and takes about 6 hours to drive from Kenyaways. It is a small park but with stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The local people are mainly Maasai, and it is one of the best wildlife-viewing experiences in the world with 400 species of birds including water birds, pelicans, kingfishers, crakes, hammerkops. The park protects two of the five main swamps, and includes a dried-up Pleistocene lake and semi-arid vegetation. Amboseli National Park is the second most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara National Reserve.
